Description

This qualification will give you an understanding of basic photographic processes and how to manipulate images. You will build a portfolio of evidence and complete coursework. Learners must have their own digital SLR camera and if possible a laptop with photo editing software to bring to classes and to use for homework assignments. Tutor will advise on correct software before the course commences. You will be required to attend an assessment interview before enrolling. Please click here to book this . More information
The course consists of two units: Unit 1 - Use a camera to capture creative images and Unit 2 - Digital image manipulation. You will learn basic principles of composition and visual awareness to capture images using your camera. You will explore visual results by using different lenses, camera positions and controls producing a series of images which you will review, evaluate and process. You will learn how to manipulate your images using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop software. Please ensure that you have a laptop with photo editing software for this course. Tutor will advise on correct software. Upon successful completion of your portfolio, you will gain the Level 1 qualification. Can I join late?
Only up to week 2 at the tutor's discretion.

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in exploring photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources. Developing and adapting photographic ideas. Presenting a portfolio of photographic images. Completing both units leads to Level 1 Award qualification.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No, but you will need to attend an interview prior to enrolment. Contact the College on 020 8659 7679 for further information. Please bring samples of any photos you have taken recently. This is a qualification course and assessment is by a completed portfolio of work.

How will I learn?
A mixture of formal teaching, group and 1-1, demonstration, practical, questions and answers and observation, trips out, tutorials.

How will my progress be assessed?
Internal and external moderation of a portfolio of evidence which you will build up over the course. Includes some assignments.

Is there an external qualification?
Yes, NCFE Level 1 Award in Photography.

What can I do next?
To other Level 2 courses at BAEC or other colleges. Tutor will advise on progression routes.

What do I need to bring?
Digital SLR camera and tripod, pen and notebook. You will also need to bring a laptop computer with correct software to sessions. Tutor will advise.

Are there any extra costs?
You will need to pay for printing of your photos. Some gallery trips may have entrance fees. The cost of equipment required is not included in the course cost. Tutor will advise at first session.

Is there work between sessions?
Yes, you will be expected to complete work between sessions in order to complete the course and achieve the qualification. Assessment is by completed portfolio of work.
