Description

Learn to make a variety of soft furnishings including professionally finished cushions.
Master those tricky corners and joins using the sewing machine. You will be taught a wide range of skills and decorative finishes, including inserting an invisible zip, gathers, pintucks and piping. You will gain confidence in knowing how to create a layplan to accurately measure and cut your fabric for any future projects.
On completion of your personalised cushions, you will be given the opportunity to select an additional soft furnishing project to complement the cushions, for example a feature doorstop or sofa organiser.

On this course you can expect to: Learn to use a sewing machine correctly and safely Develop professional sewing skills & techniques Learn to insert trims including zips and piping Create a soft furnishing master pattern/template Calculate the consumption of fabric and materials accurately Design & produce your own soft furnishing products The cost of materials and equipment used is not included in the cost of the course.

Can I join late?
Yes, with Tutor's permission up to week 2.

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in making their cushions and accessories, would like to lean basic skills and those who are unconfident when using a sewing machine. The course is suitable for complete beginners and those with limited skills in soft furnishings.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
This is a course for beginners or having limited skills.

How will I learn?
A practical course with a mixture of one to one and small group tuition, demonstration, discussion and questions and answers.

How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed informally by your tutor, as part of normal classroom activities. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor.

Is there an external qualification?
No, this is an non-accredited course

What can I do next?
You can progress to other soft furnishing courses starting in September 2024, or other craft courses of interest. Tutor will advise.

What do I need to bring?
Please bring basic sewing equipment: tape measure, pins, needles, scissors and threads. Pen and paper. If you require glasses for close work, please bring them to each session.

Are there any extra costs?
Cost of materials which will be discussed during the first session.

Is there work between sessions?
It is useful to practise between sessions.
