Description

This is an intermediate level course for anyone wanting to improve their word processing and spreadsheet skills to be work ready or to be a proficient home user. You will build on basic skills in Microsoft Word to use more advanced features such as tables or styles. You will build on basic skills in Microsoft Excel to use more advanced features such as functions, graphs and data management tools.


Suitable for improvers in Microsoft Word and Excel.

This course is not suitable for beginners to word processing or spreadsheets. You will need to have completed the Office Skills Foundation course or have similar skills in Word and Excel (see Prior knowledge in the More Details section below).


No qualification is attached to this course but an in-house certificate of completion is available on request.

This course is taught using Microsoft Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 365
It is an intermediate level course for those who already have basic word processing and spreadsheet skills.

You will learn how to use Microsoft Word to create professional documents:
Create advanced tables
Manipulate objects such as images, text boxes
Use advanced formatting features
Use styles to create tables of contents
Add links to webpages
Create pdf documents

You will learn how to use Microsoft Excel to:
Format data
Manipulate lists - sort, filter
Manage data and remove duplicates
Apply conditional formatting
Use basic functions
Create and format graphs
Use advanced print functionality such as headers and footers

Who is the course for?

You will build on basic skills in Microsoft Word to use more advanced features such as tables or styles. You will build on basic skills in Microsoft Excel to use more advanced features such as functions, graphs and data management tools.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
This course is not suitable for beginners to word processing or spreadsheets. You will need to have completed the Office Skills Foundation course or have similar skills in Word and Excel.
You should be able to do the following in Microsoft Word (or very similar WP software)
Enter and edit text, format text, open save and close a document.
Create a basic table.


You should be able to the following in Microsoft Excel (or very similar spreadsheet software)
Enter numbers and text in a spreadsheet
Use the sum function to add columns of numbers
Insert/delete rows and columns


A pre course assessment may be required

How will I learn?
A practical course with you working on a computer, following the tutor's demonstrations, practising tasks set, discussion and questions and answers.

How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed informally by your tutor, as part of normal classroom activities. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor.

Is there an external qualification?
No, this is a non-accredited course but you will receive an attendance certificate if requested.

Note pad and pen, file or document wallet for handouts.
