Throughout the course, you'll find engaging and enjoyable challenges that will help develop both personal and work-related skills. As you progress, you'll gain a deeper understanding of creative and practical arts, learning how they reflect and shape our society over time. Additionally, you'll explore how art contributes to the cultural richness of our community, both locally and globally. Our goal is to encourage your self-expression and creativity, promoting mental sharpness, memory, attention, concentration, and social skills. You'll have the opportunity to form new friendships and visit galleries together, if desired. Assessment will focus on the development of skills studied each week, as well as end-of-course presentations. We encourage self-reflection and documentation using personal accordion books or notebooks. Throughout the course, you'll delve into the world of Modern art from 1880 onwards, discussing and analysing artworks, artists, and movements. You'll expand your art vocabulary, visit galleries/museums, and conduct online research. Group visit to galleries or museums are also part of the experience.

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in Seeing, Thinking and Wondering about Modern Art from 1880 to the present day.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No prior knowledge is necessary - just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm!

How will I learn?
A practical course with a mixture of one to one and small group tuition, demonstration, discussion and questions and answers. Visits to Galleries and museums, also virtual visits.

How will my progress be assessed?
Assessment will focus on the development of skills studied each week, as well as end-of-course presentations. We encourage self-reflection and documentation using personal accordion books or notebooks.

No, this is an non-accredited course

What do I need to bring?
All learners are required to have specific The Art Book - code 9780714836256 - by Phaidon and a notebook or an accordion book made in class for note-taking. We explore artists from diverse backgrounds, including those from Asia, Africa, Middle East & South & North America, Russia as well as Europe and we cover relevant historical events, such as the Rwandan genocide, world wars seen through the eyes of the artists etc.

Are there any extra costs?
Yes, there may be some additional costs for travel and admission charges to museums or galleries depending from governmental guidance. Tutor will also advise on any books recommended for the course. This will be discussed at the first session.

Is there work between sessions?
Yes, research on the Internet, library or individual gallery/museum visit.
