Can I join late?
By agreement with the tutor.

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in Creative Writing, Poetry and has a love for written prose.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No previous experience required. You will need good skills in English language.

How will I learn?
Lecture of topic of the day followed by a writing exercise on that topic, then a discussion and sharing of writing done in said exercise, corrections, commendations, expand on key topic points into free writing time with more sharing, feedback etc then finish with homework assignments.

How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed informally by your tutor, as part of normal classroom activities. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor. Peer reviews - students will exchange their work for a peer to take home, read and review. Tutor assessment - spelling, punctuation, grammar, and final piece review at the end of the course with a word limit between 500-1500 depending on number of students. Mid-course quizzes - multiple choice questions based on previous lessons' content. End of course quiz - multiple choice questions based on course content."

Is there an external qualification?
No, this is an non-accredited course

What can I do next?
We offer a range of Creative Writing courses at BAEC, the tutor will advise on what to study after you've completed this course.

What do I need to bring?
Pen and paper. Course materials provided will be digital so some form of device to be able to receive and access - a smart phone, tablet or laptop/desktop computer. Printed copies may be requested.

Are there any extra costs?
The tutor offers additional, optional support sessions called 'Morning Pages' - these are 90 minutes on a different day to the course, and would be all on Zoom. It would be 3 free-writing sprints of 25 minutes each with 5 minutes break between. This is called the Pomorodo Technique. It would be open to anybody on or off the course who finds it difficult to sit down and write and needs extra discipline and motivation.

Is there work between sessions?
Yes. Limited time is offered in class to write so most of this would be done outside class times. Also reading and research to be done on students' own time.
