Description

Learn or improve your skills in how to measure yourself accurately, how to read, understand and make simple alterations to a commercial pattern including how to lay out, cut out and mark correctly. You will also learn how to complete simple alterations and a variety of seams, darts and gathers, how to put in a sleeve and various sewing techniques e.g. seams and seam finishes, hems and zip insertion. The cost of materials and equipment used is not included in the cost of the course. Please read the full description in ''More details'' below before completing your enrolment.

Yes, with Tutor's permission.

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in making their own clothes, would like to lean basic skills and those who are unconfident when using a sewing machine. The course is suitable for complete beginners and those with limited skills in clothes making.

Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
This is a course for beginners or having limited skills in clothesmaking.

How will I learn?
A practical course with a mixture of one to one and small group tuition, demonstration, discussion and questions and answers.

How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed informally by your tutor, as part of normal classroom activities. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor.

Is there an external qualification?
No, this is an non-accredited course

What can I do next?
You can progress to longer Clothesmaking courses and to Pattern Cutting courses.

What do I need to bring?
Please bring basic sewing equipment: tape measure, pins, needles, scissors and threads. Pen and paper. If you require glasses for close work, please bring them to each session.

Are there any extra costs?
Cost of materials which will be discussed during the first session.

Is there work between sessions?
It is useful to practise between sessions.
