Etching and Printmaking for Beginners
Description
This course is a great starting point for anyone new to printmaking. You'll be introduced to a range of simple print techniques and learn how to apply your own artwork to the print process. Along the way, you'll explore the work of both historical and contemporary printmakers for inspiration and discover how printmaking can reflect different ideas and themes. No previous experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment!

If you are ready for a challenge, join our etching and printmaking course.
You will learn how to:
Draw and select relevant images and material for printmaking, prepare plates, make soft and hard grounds using different metals, transfer drawings to the plate/lino and drawing image, Bite plates and learn the safe use of acids and cutting the lino, Make aquatint and various other textures that create tone, All aspects of printing/etching and lino, black and white multi plates. You will gain an understanding of the history and relevance of printmaking.
You will be encouraged to develop your own styles and ideas in a creative way.
Can I join late?
Yes. Anyone joining after the first session will be given extra support. You can join this course at any time.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in etching and printmaking.
Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
Some previous drawing experience would be helpful.
How will I learn?
A practical course with a mixture of one to one and small group tuition, demonstration, discussion and questions and answers.
How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed informally by your tutor, as part of normal classroom activities. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor.
Is there an external qualification?
No, this is an non-accredited course
What can I do next?
You can continue to study etching at BAEC on our improver or workshop class. You can also progress to specialist courses at the University of the Arts London.
Tutor will advise about opportunities.
What do I need to bring?
Please wear loose comfortable old clothing. The tutor will adivse on suitable materials at the first session.
Are there any extra costs?
The cost of materials is not included in the course fee. Be prepared to spend up to £40 during the course.
Is there work between sessions?
You may choose to work on your project between sessions.
