Stained Glass - Improvers
Description
Build on your existing stained glass skills in this course designed for improvers. You'll have the opportunity to develop a personal project, from designing to assembling, using more refined techniques to create a decorative piece for your home or as a thoughtful handmade gift. With tutor support, you'll improve your cutting, soldering, and finishing skills, and gain more confidence working with complex shapes, patterns, and colour combinations.

More information
Beginners can expect to be able to:
Use tools, materials and equipment safely and correctly and apply safe practice within the workshop.
Create and develop design work producing working drawings
Select materials to design
Cut glass and assemble project with lead
Solder, cement and polish a small simple leaded panel
Make a small colourful leaded decorative glass piece
More Experienced learners will:
Revise the above topics to develop/maintain current standard of work
Understand and work to window rebate measurements
Cut complex shapes in glass accurately
Etch glass
Incorporate wire in projects
Assemble and solder complex leaded projects or develop copper foil assembly technique and decorative soldering.
Continue/develop a new or existing project identifying targets and skills
Can I join late?
Yes. up to week 2.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in learning the art of stained glass.
Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No, this course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
How will I learn?
Demonstration followed by individual project work and one to one discussion,
Question and answer, worksheet and handouts depending upon the needs of students.
Extending Learning through IT research.
How will my progress be assessed?
There will be ongoing informal assessment throughout the course and the tutor will give regular feedback on your progress.
Is there an external qualification?
No, this is an non-accredited course.
What can I do next?
Other stained glass classes within BAEC and at other colleges, the tutor will advise.
What do I need to bring?
Long hair needs to be tied back and no open shoes such as sandals to be worn. Tutor will advise of other requirements. Please wear old clothes or bring an overall, cloth apron recommended.. If you require glasses for close work, please bring them. Please bring a pencil, eraser and ruler to the first session.
Are there any extra costs?
You are advised not to purchase tools or materials without prior discussion with the tutor. Some specialist tools and equipment are available for shared class use. You may wish to purchase a glass cutter £5-£30. You may like to buy additional tools such as a hammer £1-£10, cut runner £8, lead knife £8.50, pliers £1-£10 cotton apron £5. The approximate cost of a small leaded panel, £20-£30, a large/complex project £50 upwards as desired. A selection of materials will be available for purchase from the college. The cost of materials is not included in the course fee.
Is there work between sessions?
Some homework may include preparations for the next session or internet research.
