Description
This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's sectors. They include the roles played by workers, from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others.
This qualification:
- is aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them
- allows learners to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors
- allows learners to tailor their learning to their interests through the provision of a broad range of optional units
- provides opportunities for the development of transferable skills
- supports progression to Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children's settings
- provides learners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in the care sectors.

This Health & Social Care course is a stepping stone if you are considering further Health & Social Care training. You will learn initial care skills to help others in a voluntary or employed situation. Gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the Health & Social Care sectors.

Learners may join up to week 3 but they may not miss any other sessions.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in learning initial Health & Social Care skills to help others in a voluntary or employed situation.
Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No.
How will I learn?
A mixture of whole group, small group and 1-1 tuition.
How will my progress be assessed?
Your progress is assessed in a practical and ongoing way rather than through traditional exams. You will be expected to keep a portfolio of evidence, including reflective learning reviews, self-assessments, and tutor feedback, to demonstrate your development. Tutors will observe your participation in group activities and skills practice sessions, while you also take part in peer and self-assessment to reflect on your growth. Regular attendance and active engagement are also key, as our vocational courses are experiential and rely heavily on participation.
Is there an external qualification?
Yes, this is the NCFE Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings.
What can I do next?
Learners can progress to a Level 2 Certificate qualification in Health and Social Care.
What do I need to bring?
Folder, paper and pen.
Are there any extra costs?
No but learners may want to acquire recommended books.
Is there work between sessions?
Yes, there will be regular homework and assignments to complete between sessions. You will need to complete weekly journals and feedback sheets.
